How to Create a Valentine’s Photoshoot at Home with Your Kids
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to slow down and capture sweet, love-filled moments with your kids—and you don’t need fancy equipment or a professional studio to do it. With a little natural light and a few simple props, you can create meaningful Valentine’s photos right at home.
If you’re feeling inspired to try it yourself, here are some easy tips to make it fun and stress-free:
1. Use Natural Light
The best light is often already in your home. Choose a room with a large window and turn off overhead lights. Natural light is soft, flattering, and perfect for cozy, candid photos.
2. Have Your Kids Face the Window
Position your kids so they’re facing the window, not with the window behind them. This allows the light to fall evenly across their faces and helps avoid harsh shadows. Even standing a few feet back from the window works great.
3. Keep the Backdrop Simple
You don’t need anything complicated. A neutral sheet, blanket, or quilt hung on a wall or draped over a curtain rod makes an easy, clean backdrop. Stick with whites, creams, pinks, or soft reds for a Valentine’s feel.
4. Add a Fun Valentine’s Detail
A little prop goes a long way. Try using lipstick to add kiss marks on their cheeks (this is always a hit), or pull out a box of classic candy hearts for them to hold, toss, or snack on between shots. These small details add personality and keep kids engaged.
5. Keep It Short and Playful
Kids don’t need a long session. Ten minutes can be more than enough. Let them be silly, move around, and take breaks. Some of the best photos happen in between the “posed” moments.
Creating your own Valentine’s photos can be a fun memory in itself—but if you’d rather skip the setup and just show up, I’ve got you covered.
✨ Valentine’s Mini Sessions are happening on February 1st ✨
These sessions are perfect if you want professional photos without the work of doing it yourself. I’ll take care of the lighting, backdrop, and details so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
Spots are limited, so reach out if you’d like to reserve one. Whether you DIY or book a mini, the most important thing is capturing this season with your kids—because it goes fast.
